Stellantis Alters EV Plans, Revives Hemi Engines

The global auto giant Stellantis is reworking its electrification roadmap under new leadership. CEO Antonio Filosa, who took over in June 2025, is scaling back some of the company’s electric vehicle ambitions while reviving its famous Hemi V-8 engines, signaling a shift in strategy. This marks a departure from the vision of former CEO Carlos Tavares, who strongly prioritized EV expansion at the expense of gasoline performance models.

Under the updated Stellantis EV plans, the automaker is dialing down certain all-electric projects, including the cancellation of Ram’s fully electric pickup. Instead, the brand will roll out a renamed Ramcharger model, which blends electrification with traditional powertrains. Meanwhile, Jeep has already begun shipping its Wagoneer S Launch Edition EV, which reached dealerships in January, showing that electrification remains part of the portfolio—just not the singular focus.

Filosa’s approach emphasizes balance: maintaining Stellantis’s presence in the growing EV market while also catering to performance enthusiasts loyal to Hemi engines. This move reflects broader industry trends, as automakers recalibrate strategies in response to fluctuating demand, regulatory uncertainty, and infrastructure challenges.

The reintroduction of Hemi V-8 power is expected to strengthen Stellantis’s performance lineup, particularly for Dodge and Ram, where customer demand for muscle and towing capability remains strong. At the same time, brands like Chrysler, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo are adjusting their own electrification paths, with Fiat’s 500e standing as its only U.S. offering for now and Alfa Romeo moving away from an all-electric mandate.

By reshaping its strategy, Stellantis is positioning itself as more agile in a volatile automotive landscape. The mix of electric innovation and combustion-engine tradition allows the company to appeal to both progressive EV buyers and long-time performance fans.

Industry watchers see the latest Stellantis EV plans as a pragmatic adjustment—one that acknowledges market realities while keeping the door open for innovation in both electrified and combustion powertrains.
