Nothing captures the soul of car culture quite like Luftgekühlt 11, the annual celebration of air-cooled Porsche masterpieces. Held at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, North Carolina, this year’s edition gathered over 400 vehicles and 9,200 attendees, transforming the historic venue into a living museum of design, innovation, and automotive emotion.

Founded by Patrick Long, former Porsche factory driver, Luftgekühlt began as a small Southern California event but has evolved into an international phenomenon. It now draws enthusiasts from 22 countries, bridging the gap between everyday fans and die-hard collectors through stories told in metal, paint, and history.

A Living Museum of Porsche Heritage

This year’s Luftgekühlt 11 Porsche event turned the Durham campus into a curated showcase of the marque’s finest models—from race-winning legends to lovingly preserved road cars. Among the headliners were Tommy Kendall’s 993 GT2 Evo from Le Mans and Bobby Rahal’s 904 Carrera GTS, both steeped in motorsport glory.

Special displays marked the 30th anniversary of the Type-993 Porsche 911, with a stunning lineup of air-cooled masterpieces. Visitors also explored “Safari” builds, daily drivers, and rare restoration projects that highlighted the creativity and passion of Porsche owners worldwide.

The iconic “356 Alley” paid homage to Porsche’s origins with rarely seen classics from The Ingram Collection and Road Scholars, including a 1955 Porsche 550, 1958 718 RSK, and 1968 911 R—each telling a chapter of the brand’s evolution.

Celebrating Legacy and Innovation

The Luftgekühlt 11 Porsche event offered more than nostalgia—it captured the living heartbeat of a brand that continues to inspire. The 1972 Porsche 917/10 and its formidable sibling, the 1973 917/30, rekindled memories of Can-Am dominance under Mark Donohue and Roger Penske. Meanwhile, the world’s only Porsche 966, created by Gunnar Racing, stood out as a fascinating fusion of endurance racing heritage and engineering artistry.

As the sun set, host Tommy Kendall fired up his roaring 993 GT2, closing the event with an unforgettable symphony of sound—a fitting finale to a celebration where passion, craftsmanship, and history converged.
