Ford has finally addressed one of the most frustrating features in the Mustang Mach-E. The 2025 model ditches the rotary-knob shifter, a design that many drivers found awkward. This change improves the driving experience and brings the Mach-E in line with other top electric vehicles (EVs).
A Simple, Effective Update
The rotary shifter was a pain to use. It took up valuable space and required drivers to look down when shifting. Ford’s decision to redesign the Mach-E’s shifter follows a broader trend in the automotive industry. Many automakers are reconsidering the overuse of touch-sensitive controls. Volkswagen, for example, has announced it will bring back physical buttons, acknowledging that “it’s a car, not a phone.” Even companies like Hyundai and Scout are returning to more intuitive, tactile controls.
Ford’s update represents a larger shift towards more user-friendly features, as automakers recognize that minimalism should not come at the cost of practicality.
