2026 Dodge Durango Drops V-6 for All-Hemi Lineup
The 2026 Dodge Durango continues its remarkable run, with the third-generation model still on sale after more than a decade. This time, Dodge makes a bold move: the V-6 is gone, leaving only Hemi V-8 engines across the entire lineup.
Orders for the GT and SRT Hellcat open on August 13, with the R/T AWD available later this year. Despite its age, the Durango remains fun to drive and competitive as a three-row family hauler, even if its safety and convenience tech lag behind newer rivals.
Hemi Power for Every Trim
For 2026, the base GT now comes with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, making it “the most affordable AWD V-8 vehicle in the industry,” according to Dodge. The R/T gains the 6.4-liter “392” Hemi V-8 with 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, while the SRT Hellcat retains its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 delivering 710 hp and 645 lb-ft.
This shift not only makes the Durango unique in Dodge’s current lineup but also in the industry—it’s now the only model sold exclusively with V-8 power.

New Packages and Features
Dodge adds fresh style through the Blacktop Redline package for the R/T, offering blacked-out 20-inch wheels, black badging, black SRT exhaust tips, and spoilers. Inside, it includes SRT front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, leather and microsuede upholstery with red stitching, and geometric “crypto sweep” trim accents.
The package costs $3,495 for the R/T Plus and R/T Premium, while a lighter Blacktop package is available for $1,695. The GT’s Blacktop Redline adds red exterior stripes, performance hood, and SRT performance seats.
Jailbreak Customization
For those wanting more personalization, the SRT Hellcat offers the Jailbreak option for $995. This unlocks a wide range of customization, including six wheel designs, six exterior colors, five stripe choices, and multiple seat, seatbelt, and brake caliper color combinations.
Pricing
The base GT starts at $44,490, roughly $4,000 more than before due to the standard Hemi V-8. While this is a price jump, it positions the GT as one of the most affordable ways to get a brand-new AWD V-8 SUV in 2026.
Verdict
The 2026 Dodge Durango remains a rare breed—an old-school SUV that still prioritizes performance. By going all-in on Hemi power, Dodge keeps it appealing to enthusiasts while offering variety through styling packages and customization options. It may be aging, but for muscle SUV fans, it’s more tempting than ever.
