Gujarat has firmly established itself as one of the world’s leading automotive hubs, with a string of successful investments, world-class manufacturing facilities, and strategic exports. As the state prepares to host the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences (VGRC), Gujarat’s automotive industry is ready to showcase its impressive growth and potential to global investors.
At the heart of this transformation is Suzuki Motors Gujarat, which operates one of the largest car production plants in India, capable of producing 7.5 lakh car units annually. This facility has played a crucial role in making North Gujarat a major player in the automotive manufacturing sector. With substantial investments in infrastructure and an investment-friendly environment, Gujarat has attracted global automotive players, making it a key hub for automobile production.
Strong Investments and Future Growth
In a recent announcement, the state highlighted its strong capital inflows into the automotive sector, amounting to Rs 29,700 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23. This represents a remarkable 16.4% CAGR over the past five years, showing the rapid growth and increasing international interest in Gujarat’s automotive landscape. Suzuki has also announced the establishment of a fourth production line, further enhancing its capacity to manufacture Electric Vehicles (EVs), in line with the global shift toward sustainability.
Moreover, Gujarat has seen significant investments in the auto component industry, especially around the city of Mehsana, with the Mandal Becharaji SIR (Special Investment Region) emerging as a key auto-industrial zone. In line with the future of the automotive industry, Suzuki’s recent announcements of setting up a Battery Plant and an EV Manufacturing Facility have reinforced Gujarat’s commitment to leading the way in the electric vehicle sector.
Strategic Export Hub
The state’s strategic port infrastructure has also enhanced its position as a global export hub for the automotive industry. In 2024, Gujarat exported vehicles worth approximately INR 3,459 crore, with key markets including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the UAE, and Chile. These developments have placed Gujarat in a prime position to compete on the global stage as a key player in the automotive export market.
