Right‑hand drive conversions bring US power to East Africa
Kenya is set to welcome American pickup trucks for the first time, thanks to a factory‑backed program converting these vehicles to right‑hand drive. For decades, owning a US‑style pickup was impractical in East Africa, but this breakthrough makes them road‑legal and accessible.
Autogroup International is leading the initiative, offering more than 20 models from brands like Shelby American, Fox Factory, Harley‑Davidson, and Black Widow. The conversions meet ISO engineering standards, ensuring performance and safety remain intact.
Among the standout models is the Fox Factory Silverado 1500, equipped with a supercharged V8 engine delivering over 700 horsepower. Its adaptive suspension system allows drivers to switch seamlessly between city roads and rugged terrain, combining raw power with smart engineering.
This move reshapes Kenya’s automotive landscape, giving enthusiasts access to iconic American trucks while boosting competition in the premium segment. With warranties, parts availability, and after-sales support included, the program ensures buyers enjoy both performance and reliability.
Industry analysts believe the arrival of American pickups will energize Kenya’s car market, offering consumers new choices and reinforcing East Africa’s growing role in global automotive trends.
