The 2025 Mercedes-AMG G63 stands as one of the most iconic SUVs in the automotive world. Known for its unmistakable boxy silhouette and old-school charm, the G-class has evolved, but the AMG G63 remains a beacon of power, prestige, and personality. While the G550 now uses a hybrid inline-six and a new G580 introduces an electric variant, the G63 clings to its twin-turbo V-8 heritage—and proudly so.
Opening the door feels like unlocking a vault. The mechanical click of the latch, carried over from the previous generation, sets the tone. Stepping inside, however, is an adventure. The narrow running boards hinder entry more than they help, but once seated, the experience is worth the effort.
Behind the upright windshield, the driver commands the road like a ship captain. The flat hood and raised turn signal markers make placement easy, especially off-road. New camera tech simulates an “invisible hood,” giving drivers a live view of the ground ahead—crucial for precise maneuvering.
The cabin is unapologetically premium. Standard leather is just the beginning. Our test vehicle featured the Manufaktur Interior Package Plus, with massaging, ventilated seats, nappa leather, a microsuede headliner, satin-finish metal, and open-pore wood trim. There’s no trace of hard plastic. Instead, the interior blends comfort and craftsmanship, especially in the pillow-like headrests.

Dual 12.3-inch screens span the dashboard, sharing one pane of glass. These high-resolution displays control everything from media to vehicle diagnostics. Although the system offers multiple input options—including touch, steering wheel buttons, and a center touchpad—it takes time to master the MBUX interface.
Key physical controls remain, including the trio of buttons that activate the G’s signature three locking differentials. Though the G63 doesn’t feature air suspension, its steel coils now benefit from AMG’s Active Ride Control. This hydraulic anti-roll system replaces sway bars to reduce lean. Combined with direct, well-weighted steering, the result is a surprisingly refined drive.
Performance is blistering. The 2025 Mercedes-AMG G63 hits 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. It completes the quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds at 111 mph. That’s quicker than both the G550 and the electric G580. Weighing in at 5907 pounds, the G63 still stops from 70 mph in just 170 feet—impressive for such a heavy SUV.
On-road manners have vastly improved. Despite riding on 22-inch wheels and a live rear axle, the G63 maintains composure over rough pavement. Minor head toss aside, it feels tight and composed, not wallowy.
Inside, it’s surprisingly quiet. At 70 mph, cabin noise was just 67 decibels. Meanwhile, the V-8 engine emits a deep, satisfying rumble without overwhelming the cabin. The exhaust exits from the sides, enhancing its character both inside and out.
Fuel economy is what you’d expect—15 mpg observed, matching EPA estimates. But let’s be honest: this SUV isn’t about thrift. It’s about presence, power, and prestige. If you’re asking about gas mileage, you’re probably not the target buyer.
Mercedes also lets you customize the G63 to your heart’s content. There are 12 standard paint colors and 24 additional Manufaktur hues. Inside, multiple two-tone leather options add flair. It’s as much a fashion statement as it is a performance machine.
The G63’s performance is matched by exclusivity. At a base price of $187,250 and an as-tested price of $232,800, it’s not a purchase made lightly. But buyers aren’t paying just for speed—they’re paying for an icon. And in that, the G63 delivers.
In a world of crossovers and anonymous luxury vehicles, the 2025 Mercedes-AMG G63 remains proudly distinctive. Whether you’re cruising Beverly Hills or tackling a desert trail, it blends tradition, tech, and torque in a way no other SUV can.
